The Director
The Director is a Claude-powered agent in the left pane of every project. It writes, casts, boards and plans through the same tools you can call yourself over MCP, and it waits for your approval at every checkpoint.
What you see during a turnLink to What you see during a turn
- A status line from the first moment ("Reading the project…", then "Loading skills…") and, once it works, the current step and elapsed time.
- Every tool call as a card that resolves when the call finishes. Calls that do not depend on each other run in parallel.
- The workspace follows along: with Follow on (the default), the tab the Director is working in opens by itself. If you switch tabs during a turn, your choice wins until the turn ends.
- Rows and cards the Director changed pulse, so you can see what moved.
- Every reply ends with a Next: line and buttons for the next step.
The Director switches role by stage (Commercial Director, Music Video Director, Storyboard Artist, Editor, Producer). You can pin one role for the session.
Step-by-step and AutopilotLink to Step-by-step and Autopilot
Step-by-step is the default: the Director works through one stage, proposes its checkpoint, and waits for you.
Autopilot runs the stages one after another. It approves checkpoints that cost nothing or fit both the project budget and your balance, waits for background jobs, and keeps going until the cut is approved and the deliverables are queued. It pauses, with the reason, when:
- a turn ends with an error, or two turns in a row end abnormally;
- there are not enough credits for the next step;
- a checkpoint is over budget (you can approve it anyway from the pause bar);
- two turns in a row change nothing, or the Director takes eight turns on one stage without reaching its checkpoint;
- you press Pause or reload the page.
Press Resume to carry on.
BudgetsLink to Budgets
When a project has a credit budget, every checkpoint proposal carries a cost estimate. A proposal whose estimate is more than what is left of the budget is refused, and the refusal shows the budget, what remains and what the step needs. Approving re-checks the same numbers.
The Director is told to quote before it generates and to prefer cheaper models or draft takes when a plan does not fit.
SkillsLink to Skills
The Director does not carry one giant prompt. It loads short, versioned skills for each turn: playbooks for a stage, a format, a genre, a craft or a model. The library has more than 60 of them, including:
- the Vexel shot grammar and negative constraints, loaded on every turn;
- a dialect for each video and image model (how Seedance, Veo, Kling, Seedream or Nano Banana want to be prompted);
- craft: camera, lighting, composition and blocking, acting, transitions, on-screen text, reference sheets;
- formats and genres: 15/30/60 s commercials, product hero, UGC, brand film, explainer, social vertical, music video, action, horror, romance, luxury, food, fashion;
- domain packs for regulated or sensitive work: automotive, alcohol, kids, pharma and food safety, real estate, worship;
- vocabulary packs for water, fire and smoke, fabric and hair, materials, weather, crowds, food and drink, product hero, nature and animals.
A router picks up to eight skills per turn from your message, the project type, the stage, the model of the shot you have open and the assets you mention. The pane shows them as chips ("Loading skills" while it picks, then "Loaded skills"); hover a chip for its id. The Director can also open another skill on demand when the router missed one.
Continue, auto-resume and the time limitLink to Continue, auto-resume and the time limit
A turn has up to six model steps and a time limit. Near the limit the Director stops starting new work and closes with what is done and what is left; the turn then pauses instead of being cut off.
- A paused turn shows Continue. In Step-by-step mode it continues by itself ("Continuing automatically…"), at most twice in a row per message you send.
- It never auto-resumes after an error, while a checkpoint waits for you or while something else is queued.
- While a turn’s own jobs are still running, Continue appears next to them, so you can move on without waiting for a slow job.
- If the connection drops mid-turn, the pane says the Director was interrupted, its work so far is saved, and Continue where it left off picks it up.
AttachmentsLink to Attachments
Attach up to 8 files to a message: images (PNG, JPEG, WebP), audio (WAV, MP3, M4A, FLAC, AAC) or video (MP4, MOV, WebM). Files upload straight to storage. The Director sees the images, and when you ask, it adds any file to the Asset Bible.
What a turn costsLink to What a turn costs
A Director turn is metered by the tokens it uses, at least 1 credit. A hold of up to 100 credits is placed when the turn starts and settled to the real cost when it ends. If your balance is too low, the turn stops before it spends anything.
