Getting started

A Vexel project takes an idea from a brief to a delivered cut. The Director in the left pane does the work stage by stage in the workspace on the right, and stops at checkpoints for your approval before anything costly happens.

Sign in, choose New project, give it a name and pick a type and an aspect ratio. The type decides which checkpoints the project has.

The workspace has one tab per step: Script · Assets · Storyboard · Previz · Shots · Timeline · Deliver, plus the Playground for trying any model on its own.

  1. Brief

Tell the Director what you are making: product, audience, length (15, 30 or 60 s), tone and must-haves. Attach photos, audio or video to the message if you have them.

  2. Treatment

The Director writes a treatment for your brief and proposes the treatment checkpoint.

  3. Script

A timed screenplay with VO and supers lands in the Script tab. See Script & Asset Bible.

  4. Cast

Characters, locations, products, wardrobe and voices go into the Asset Bible, with your reference images.

  5. Boards

The script becomes shot rows with timed segments, camera, audio cues and @ mentions of the cast, and every shot gets a pencil sketch. See Storyboard & Previz.

  6. Animatic

The sketches play at their planned durations with camera moves, so you and your client can watch the film before any video is made. Share it with a review link.

  7. Render plan

A model for every shot and one quote for the whole board, approved once.

  8. Generation

The Shots tab turns the approved board into video takes. Pick the take that goes into the cut. See Generation & models.

  9. Cut

The Timeline assembles the chosen takes in board order. Trim, add dissolves and titles, then approve the cut.

  10. Deliver

Render masters, export to Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve, and send review links. See Timeline & Deliver.

Checkpoints and approvalsLink to Checkpoints and approvals

At the end of each stage the Director proposes a checkpoint: a summary of what it made and a cost estimate for what comes next. You answer in the Director pane.

  • Approve & continue approves the checkpoint and starts the next stage.
  • Request changes sends your note to the Director, which revises and proposes again.
  • Checkpoints go in order: a stage can only be proposed once every stage before it is approved.
  • A checkpoint is refused while its work is missing. For example, boards cannot be proposed while a shot is still a draft or has no pencil sketch.
  • A client can approve the animatic from a review link; that approval counts as the animatic checkpoint.

When credits are spentLink to When credits are spent

Up to the animatic, the Director only spends on images (pencil sketches, reference images, previz keyframes) and on its own turns. It does not start video generation until the animatic is approved. You can still generate a shot yourself from the Shots tab or the Playground at any time.

Every job shows a quote in credits before it runs, and a job that fails or is cancelled costs nothing. See Credits & billing.
