Getting started
What is Vexel?
A production office for AI video. A Claude-powered Director takes your idea from brief to delivered cut — script, cast, storyboard, animatic, shots, edit and delivery — and stops for your approval at every stage. Every video, image and audio model sits behind one credit meter. See Welcome to Vexel.
Can I try it without paying?
Yes. The Free plan gives you a one-time grant of credits when you create your studio, enough to take a short idea through script, boards and a few test shots. No card is needed.
What can I make with Vexel?
Commercials (15, 30 or 60 s spots from a brief), music videos cut to a song, vertical mini series in episodes, and freeform experiments. See Create a project.
Do I need to know filmmaking or editing?
No. Describe what you want in plain language and the Director handles the craft: shot sizes, camera, lighting, prompts and the edit. If you do know the craft, every detail is editable by hand.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Vexel runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a desktop or laptop. The editors are built for large screens; on a phone you can follow the Director, review and approve, and the Timeline is read-only below 768 px wide.
Can my film be in another language?
Yes. Write the brief in any language or ask for the script in one; the writer and the voices support many languages. Choose the Market for the audience so the cast fits it. The app itself is in English.
The Director
What is the Director?
The agent in the left pane of every project, powered by Claude. It writes, casts, boards, plans and edits through the same tools you see in the workspace, and every action shows as a card you can open. See Working with the Director.
Does talking to the Director cost credits?
Each turn is metered by the tokens it uses (at least 1 credit) and the reply shows what it cost. Work it queues, such as images or video, is quoted and charged like the same action in the workspace.
What is Autopilot?
A drive mode where the Director runs the stages one after another and approves checkpoints within budget on its own. It stops where you asked it to review (by default the cast), when credits run short, or when it needs you. It runs on our servers, so you can close the tab. See Checkpoints and Autopilot.
I approved a stage too early. Can I undo it?
Yes. Open the stage list under the Director header, choose … on the approved stage and Reopen. Say what needs to change; that stage and the ones after it go back to review.
Why is “Approve & continue” greyed out?
The Director asked you a question. Answer the card above the message box first; approvals and generation wait until you do.
Why does the workspace switch tabs on its own?
That is Follow: the workspace opens the tab the Director is working in. Click the target icon in the message box to turn it off.
What does “Paused at the time limit” mean?
A long turn stopped cleanly before its time limit and summed up what is left. Press Continue; in Step-by-step mode it continues by itself.
Credits and billing
What is a credit?
The one unit every model and the Director are priced in. Each job is quoted in credits before it runs, from the provider’s real price, so a Seedance shot and a Veo shot compare on one scale.
Do failed generations cost credits?
No. Credits are held when a job starts and settled to the actual cost when it finishes. If a job fails or you cancel it, the whole hold is released. You can see “Hold released” in your credit history.
Why is the hold higher than the quote?
A running job holds its quote plus 10 % as a safety margin. It is charged its real cost, never more than the hold, and the rest returns to your balance.
What is free?
Creating and editing projects, scripts, shots and assets; uploading, importing and approving; song analysis; renders, masters, exports, stems, Spotify Canvas and review links. See Credits, plans and billing.
I paid but my credits have not arrived.
Credits arrive when Stripe confirms the payment, usually within seconds; refresh Billing. Subscription credits come with the paid invoice. If they are still missing after a few minutes, open a support ticket.
How do I change or cancel my plan?
In Billing, choose Manage billing to open Stripe’s customer portal. Upgrades take effect at once (prorated); downgrades and cancellations at the end of the period you paid for. Your credits stay.
Where are my invoices, and can I add a VAT ID?
Billing → Manage billing lists every invoice and lets you update your billing name, address and VAT ID. Prices include VAT; EU businesses can add a VAT ID at checkout.
Can I get a refund?
Open a support ticket with the payment. A refund removes the matching share of the credits that payment bought. Your statutory rights are described in the Terms of Service.
Do credits expire?
Plan and purchased credits stay on your balance. Free or promotional credits have no cash value and may expire as described in the Terms of Service.
Shots and generation
Which AI models does Vexel use?
Video: Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, MiniMax, Hailuo and Wan. Images: Seedream 5.0 and Nano Banana Pro. Voices, sound effects and music: ElevenLabs. Lip-sync: Sync Labs. The model picker lists what your studio can use, with live prices.
How do characters stay the same in every shot?
Through the Asset Bible: each character has reference images, and shots mention it as @name, so its primary image goes to the model with every shot. Face scores (Face 91, Drift 62) show how well each take holds.
Why are my final takes skipped?
A character or product in those shots has no reference image, so its look would change in every shot. Generate or upload a reference for that asset, or run a Draft to test motion first.
A shot failed with a safety filter message. What now?
Providers refuse prompts or images with real people, explicit or graphic detail, or recognisable brands and characters. Rephrase the shot or swap the reference images, then regenerate. Failed jobs cost nothing.
What is the difference between Draft and Final?
Draft renders a cheap preview on the model’s fast tier at its lowest resolution, to check motion and blocking. Final renders at full quality. You can draft first and finalise the shots you like.
Why does my shot say “Queued · #5”?
Your plan runs a set number of generations at once (2 on Free, 4 on Basic, 8 on Pro, 16 on Max). Extra shots wait their turn. It changes speed, never cost.
I picked another take but the edit did not change.
Choosing Use vN in cut marks the take for the cut; press Re-assemble in the Shots tab (or Assemble from storyboard on the Timeline) to update the edit.
Can I use my own photos, footage or music?
Yes. Upload photos and clips as references in the Asset Bible, attach files to the Director, upload your own sketches to the storyboard, and use your song for a music video.
Editing and delivery
Can I finish the edit in Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve?
Yes. Deliver exports Premiere XML, FCPXML and OpenTimelineIO, plus a relink bundle with every source clip, audio stems and a README for the editor. See Deliver and review.
Which master formats can I render?
ProRes 422 HQ, DNxHR HQX, H.264 1080p and 4K, a vertical 9:16 master, a preview proxy and an animatic with timecode, with loudness for web, mobile or broadcast and optional stems.
Why is my render refused?
Every picture clip must have a take. Generate the missing shots, re-assemble, then render again. The Render button is also disabled while you view an older version or an edit is saving.
How do clients review my work?
Create a review link in Deliver (or Share for review). Clients need no account: they watch, leave comments at exact frames, and approve or request changes. Links can have a password and an expiry. See Review links.
I lost a review link. Can I see it again?
No; links are shown once for security. Revoke the old one and create a new link.
Can I go back to an earlier version?
Yes. Scripts, shots and timelines keep every version. Open the version picker, pick a version and choose Restore this version; nothing is ever overwritten.
Rights, privacy and security
Who owns what I make?
You keep the rights you have in what you upload and in what Vexel generates for you, to the extent the law allows rights in AI-generated material. We do not use your content to train AI models. See the Terms of Service.
Can I use my videos commercially?
Yes, subject to the Terms of Service. Generated output may resemble other people’s work and is not guaranteed to be unique, so check it before you publish, and make sure you have the rights to anything you upload, such as photos of people, music and logos.
Is my work private?
Projects are private to your studio. Only people with a review link you created can see shared work, and links can be revoked at any time. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings → General → Help & legal, choose Delete my account. We confirm and complete it within 30 days.
Is my card safe?
Payments run through Stripe’s hosted checkout. Vexel never sees or stores your card number.
